Newburgh Chamber Music
Providing a rich classical and contemporary repertoire in the heart of historic Newburgh, New York

About Us

Newburgh Chamber Music is the proud recipient of the 2013-2014 Orange County Arts Council award for outstanding contribution to the cultural environment of the community.

NCM Mission

Newburgh Chamber Music presents a rich classical and contemporary repertoire in the heart of historic Newburgh, featuring professional chamber ensembles.

NCM Vision

Newburgh Chamber Music continues to present a diverse repertoire of classical and contemporary music performed by the highest quality chamber ensembles. We seek an audience that includes a large proportion of young people.

History of NCM

Newburgh Chamber Music was founded in the year 2000 by Philip West and Carole Cowan to promote music in the beautiful setting of Newburgh, New York and its many historic and interesting sacred and secular venues. The concerts draw on the professional talents of widely-acclaimed musicians in the Hudson  Valley and beyond.

Providing a rich classical and contemporary repertoire, Newburgh Chamber Music promotes young musicians from Newburgh through its annual scholarship program and master classes in the Newburgh school district.

NCM Membership

Anyone who subscribes in advance to all the concerts of the season, or sends a contribution of $50 or more, becomes a NCM member. Members are invited to attend the Annual Board of Directors meeting in the spring and are encouraged to actively support NCM by volunteering in these ways: concert hospitality, audience development, mailing, financial development, liaisons with school, and/or the solicitation of program ads. Of course, your presence at the concerts is the best support NCM could ask for. Thank you!

Welcome from Carole Cowan, Artistic Director and President of NCM

This fifteenth season of Newburgh Chamber Music brings special joy to me as each concert includes friends and colleagues, including artists I myself rarely get to see and hear.

REBEL, a marvelous authentic instrument music group, includes a renowned harpsichordist, Dongsok Shin, who performed as a young prodigy with an orchestra I conducted over 40 years ago.

The remarkable cellist of the Munich Philharmonic String Quartet, Manuel von der Nahmer, is married to one of my former students.

Innisfree, my trio with Sylvia Buccelli and Susan Seligman, is inviting Rachel Evans and Kent Smith (which explains the + sign) to celebrate our collaborations and friendships of many years.

In addition to the fun of inviting many artist friends I know to participate this season, the variety of music promises to be especially inspiring!

I hope you will join us for our 2016-2017 season, and I want to thank you for your part in helping us spread the joy of chamber music throughout Newburgh and the Hudson Valley region.
